Now that Christmas Eve is finally upon us (and the Mayans have been proved wrong), we at Cacao Art would like to take a moment to wish everyone a very happy holiday and a rewarding and bountiful new year! We hope you continue to follow us as we chop, dip, decorate our chocolates and bring them ever nearer to all.
Peppermint is one of those permeating aromas of the holidays. It’s in trendy coffees and teas, as the crunch element in candy barks and hanging as canes from my Christmas tree… Also, peppermint is infusing Cacao Art’s leafy bonbons.
But peppermint and chocolate isn’t only a holiday flavor. At least, not for me. As a bit of an experiment, Susana made a batch of leaf-shaped bonbons with all-natural peppermint essence and brought them to me in a little plastic bag. I took a moment to compliment her on how pretty the leaves had come out and opened the little bag. Now, this doesn’t happen to me often and I kinda snark at people who talk too much about olfactory memories, but, seriously, it was like being transported to my grandma Pepita’s house in Caracas.
Grandma Pepita eats almost nothing but chocolate (a lady after my own heart) and her favorites have always been the cool fondant in an After Eight or the hard snap of a tiny Andes Chocolate Mint. She always had some in the mini-fridge she keeps in the hall leading to her room. When any of us grandkids got to her house for the weekly Wednesday lunch and went over to say hello, she would lean in and whisper in our ear: “there’s a new box of chocolates in the fridge, hurry before they’re gone” and each of us would run over and grab a few before other greedy hands took the last. And that whole experience came back to me with a single whiff of our own mint bonbons. I haven’t seen my grandma in a few months, so it was nice to be so suddenly thinking of her. I owe her a phone call soon. And a box of peppermint chocolates, too.
There are many little windows in my Advent calendar still closed. But at Cacao Art, Christmas is in full swing! We have our own crackers, with two sweet chocolates inside, and our beautiful chocolate-gingerbread house! There’s more: our chocolate and caramel “dessert supplies” are making their debut, as well as an array of chocolate figurines from Santa-on-a-donkey to little milk and dark chocolate acorns.
Tomorrow, Thursday 6th, we will be at Gulliver Academy’s Holiday Marketplace! Coming with us is GG Press, gorgeous stationary made on a vintage letterpress using 100% cotton paper. Their calendars and greeting cards make excellent and original stocking fillers, and you can also order customised name tags and personal or business cards.
Hope to see you there!
